The Jeff Uphaus Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to the student-athlete who best represents the combination of strong Christian character, academic excellence, and athletic distinction exemplified by Jeff Uphaus.
The Jeff Uphaus Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Jeffrey Uphaus Alan Uphaus, an MNU student-athlete from 1986-1989. AFter having spent his freshman year of college Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, Jeff became the first scholarship recruit of newly appointed MNU head basketball coach Rocky Lamar in the summer of 1986.
Jeff spent three years on the varsity basketball team earning Academic All-American honors his senior year in 1989 before graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Business Administration. In addition, Jeff was named to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, was a member of Gamma Epsilon, and was an Honor Society Scholar. In his years after graduation from MNU, through graduate school at the University of Kansas and on through his burgeoning yet distinguished career in management consulting, Jeff remained a devoted supporter of MNU and a committed follower of Jesus Christ.
To his friends, Jeff was always supportive and caring, with a quick wit, a keen sense of humor, and alove of competition. To his family, Jeff was a loving husband, father, son, and brother who treasured his family. Throughout his life he remained a Godly man, never wavering from his faith, and serving as an inspiration to all who knew him. Jeff touched many lived for Christ because of the way he lived his life.
Jeff passed away suddenly on April 22, 2000 while doing one of the things he still loved most...playing basketball. He left behind his wife, Dalene - the love of his life - and three adoring sons: Grant, Cole, and Reece.
Jeff was, and will always be, an outstanding example of the kind of well-rounded Christian student-athlete that MNU strives to produce.
"The light we shed, the Message we convey, and ultimately the way we Touch people in our short time on earth is what it's all about. - Jeff Uphaus, in an e-mail to his dad, May 19, 2000
