MNU Head Football Coach
Jonathan Quinn announced his resignation on Thursday, effective tomorrow. He has accepted a position at Davidson Academy in Nashville, Tennessee.
Paul Hubbard, MNU's Defensive Coordinator for the past 5 years, will take over as Interim Head Coach.
After starting his coaching career at MNU in 2006 as the Offensive Coordinator and QB coach, Quinn was named Head Coach in the Fall of 2009. In 5 seasons with Quinn at the helm, the Pioneers have gone 45-13, made the playoffs 4 times, earned 2 HAAC Conference Championships, and have finished each season among the top 20 in the nation in Total Offense. The Pioneers enjoyed their best season in 2010, reaching the NAIA Semifinals for the first time in school history.
Including his time as an assistant, MNU has also boasted 5 Offensive Conference Players of the Year (Matt Schneider, Pat Ealy, Tyler Herl, Juan Redmon, and Sean Ransburg), six Honorable Mention All-Americas, one 2nd-team All-America honoree, and seven 1st-team All-America honorees.
"I've really enjoyed my time at MNU," says Coach Quinn. "I'm proud of the growth this program experienced, and we've come to love everyone involved like family. This was a hard decision, but it is in the best interest of my family to go back home [to Tennessee] and still be around football at a Christian school. I'd like to thank President Spittal, my AD
Kevin Steele, and all those who supported my family and me. Mostly I thank the faculty, staff, and students: the biggest fans of our program. Good luck to Coach Hubbard and MNU Football. I'm confident the program will continue to contend for HAAC titles and eventually contend for a national title."
"I want to thank Jonathan for his dedication and brilliant direction of MNU Football," says Director of Athletics
Kevin Steele. "His record is impeccable, but more importantly he modeled what it means to be a Christian man and invited his players to follow him as he followed Christ. We could not have been more blessed as an institution. We are saddened by his departure and at the same time excited for this opportunity for his entire family as they move back to their home. We wish them nothing but God's best."
Hubbard will be a candidate as the search for MNU's next coach begins immediately. Steele says, "I am fully confident in Coach Paul Hubbard as he takes the reins of this program as the interim head coach. Paul has earned this opportunity and will be a very strong candidate going forward in our exhaustive search process."
Coach Hubbard does not foresee any hiccups as the team prepares for the fall, "As we finish up recruiting I know we will continue as we always have. We will find the next group of student-athletes to carry the tradition of MNU Football. I want to thank Coach Quinn for building such an impressive legacy here, and I know whoever is next in line will carry the torch. I wish Coach and family the best in his next phase in life. He is a great man and great father, and he will do great things at Davidson."
MNU's 2014 season opener is at home (ODAC) vs. McPherson on Saturday, September 13 at 6:00.
