Olathe, Kan. - (November 30, 2009) - MNU is pleased to announce the signing of David Hamlett, a utility player from Brookside Christian School in Stockton, California.
As a junior last year, Hamlett hit .571 with 11 doubles, 10 triples, and 28 stolen bases. A versatile player, David also pitches for Brookside Christian and accumulated 14 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched during his junior campaign.
"The signing of David Hamlett is a major recruiting feat for Pioneer baseball," says Head Coach Ryan Thompson. “He is a great fit for our University, both on and off the field. He is a young man of high character that can be an impact player in our program as a hitter and a pitcher.”
Hamlett’s skills have been developed by his father, Dave Hamlett, who is the Head Baseball Coach at Brookside Christian. He has also worked closely with Jalal Leach, a former San Francisco Giant who retired from professional baseball to pursue a career mentoring youth and developing their baseball skills.
"It is very exciting to sign a player of his caliber this early in the recruiting process," Thompson indicates. "The signing of David Hamlett is another signal of how the Pioneer baseball program has risen in stature and is indicative of the kind of high character, hard working athlete that our program is attracting."
